The project ’Training in Urology’ (TIU) stands for development, evaluation, validation and implementation of non-patient related education in Urology and the optimization of patient related actions in the outpatient clinic and operating room. ‘Everything that can be learned outside the patient should be done so’ is the statement of the project. All surgeons should know the instruments and equipment he or she uses, and should be able to control this on the patient. In present time it is not acceptable anymore to learn skills only according to the classic master-apprentice model, in which the patient is the most important ‘practice medium’. In addition to this classic model the basics of the skills should be trained in a safe trainee-based educational environment. Better quality of education will lead to better quality of patient care!
